AN UNEXPECTED TURN OF EVENTS

31/7/2021

Picture
How well prepared are we, as we age, to deal with an unexpected turn of events? Are accidents always only a bad-news story or is there personal growth on offer in an event that initially feels unfortunate? These are the questions I’ve been asking myself. Over the past few months, I’ve realised that the opportunity to accept, surrender and evolve may be missed if I don’t surrender to the change brought on by the ‘unfortunate’ turn of events.

BEAUTIFUL AND OLD

31/1/2021

Picture

With age our physical beauty and body naturally look older, we acquire wrinkles, sagging skin, false teeth (although they can look beautiful), and in general gravity is starting to claim the physical body until it is horizontal and does not move anymore.
Yet, on the other hand our inner energetic beauty has the potential to grow and shine the older we get.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING – A NEW PARADIGM

31/12/2020

Picture

Many people think that they are healthy if they are not suffering from a terminal illness. Others would have a definition based on their fitness and strength. There are many versions of health and wellbeing. It seems that we each manufacture our own personal concept of what these words mean for us.

THE POWER OF SURRENDER AND ACCEPTANCE IN HEALING

30/10/2020

Picture
By the time I was seventy-six I believed that I was well past any more hospital visits. How wrong I was! If I had ‘been through the mill’ before so to speak, what I experienced in the early part of 2020 consumed more than six months of my life and I still have not fully recovered. I had learned the importance of surrender and acceptance from my previous hospitalisations and this stood me in good stead as I made my way along my current complex medical journey.

LIVING WITH AN ILLNESS

1/8/2020

Picture
Some years ago, I was invited to join a group of nurses and other people looking at the problems of living with chronic illness. It was an 8-week course covering a wide range of diseases such as asthma, arthritis, diabetes, depression and cardiac issues, to name a few. At the time I had arthritis in my hands which made my job in aged care rather difficult.

HIGH NOTES AT 70

31/3/2020

Picture

Recently I had my hearing  tested because I was unable to understand what my 4 year old grand-daughter was saying, nor did I always realise someone was talking to me if they were in another room. I delayed my first visit to an audiologist, justifying that the hearing problem was due to wax build-up to which I am prone.

ILLNESS AS A BLESSING

28/2/2020

Picture
After feeling very tired for a long period, having regular blood tests and visiting my local doctor, I was told to have a colonoscopy. Due to my very low iron levels my doctor felt I could be bleeding internally so I was pleased when I was able to book the colonoscopy for a couple of days later. After the colonoscopy was over I was told that I had bowel cancer. Shock, horror at that word. No one in my family had ever had cancer.

30/12/2019

Picture
Many of us have led busy even manic working lives, raising children, keeping house, working in a business, organising holidays, appointments, meeting deadlines and keeping up a social life, but could we say that we were always living a healthy lifestyle?

A HEALING JOURNEY IS NOT JUST FOR OURSELVES

29/9/2019

Picture
In my younger years I used to give others very definite advice about what I thought they needed to hear, in other words, I knew better!
In my enthusiasm for each new learning which I felt to be the thing that would save us all and the world, I would spout endless information about my current favourite.
