When we are younger, we do not generally feel we have the space to reflect and consider – we take life for granted and seldom stop to feel what is truly taking place. As we grow older, we gradually learn to reflect and ponder on what was truly taking place throughout our life – and that there was more going on than the superficiality that we assume life to be.
Is the notion that life can become more difficult simply a ploy to distract us from allowing our body to settle as we reach the acceptance that comes with age? That is how it felt to me as I would support my mother as she aged in a practical way but to also get to know this woman who had been such a major part of my life required me to stop and connect with her.
I recall that as my mother aged it offered the family an opportunity to spend time quietly sitting and exchanging our experiences of life over a simple cup of tea. I loved the afternoons spent sharing with her how much my life had changed and equally how much her life had shifted over the years. One afternoon I recall sharing a passage from a book I was reading at the time and her response was to take the revelation to a much deeper level.
There is a huge amount that can be revealed that maybe we do not see when we are preoccupied with the busyness and doing part of life.
We are offered these moments to reflect and see life differently and understand that to sit and simply be with one another quietly contemplating and appreciating, for example, how much our hands have assisted us throughout the passage of life. Our hands connect us to our delicacy and the sensitivity that is always residing deep within – to take a moment to feel how when we touch another part of our body with our fingertips it can open a deep appreciation of the delicacy or otherwise that we can bring to our daily tasks. Have we ever stopped to consider the effect that this connection can bring maybe to another as we make contact by lightly resting our fingertips on the hand of another – not in any way of imposition but simply to convey the deep love that we hold for one another and for all of humanity.
We can take such simplicities for granted and not allow ourselves to stop and reflect on how much we can disregard our body.
Our body is this magnificent vehicle that is our constant friend and reflector – it is forever alerting us when we take it for granted and push it too hard – it is our dearest friend and companion and at no time does it berate us when we abuse it or take it for granted. It begins by being very subtle and gentle with us and only when we completely ignore it will it become more severe in its admonishments. We have an opportunity to see and feel the early signs or wait until pain or disease make it impossible to ignore the message.
I have learnt to love my body so much more as I have aged and the enrichment that this has brought into my life is absolutely amazing. Each movement that is made in love is reflected to others around me. I can be simply walking along the pathway and each step I make is leaving either a footprint of healing or harming. My body is truly magnificent and magnifies whatever energy may be passing through.
The other amazing offering that my body makes is to allow me to feel where I can change the footprints that I leave on this plane of life. If I have been harsh in any way my body will remind me to take a moment and reassess whether my actions have been those that will enhance life energetically and what offering will be in the imprint felt by another. The greater the attention to my movements the more loving is the imprint that will be felt by others – the harming energy or the healing energy will both reverberate out and leave a lasting imprint.
I feel deeply blessed to have been offered so much that has supported me to be of greater service and purpose both in this lifetime and equally for future lifetimes. To have been offered and accept the opportunity to enhance my life as I age is richness that is immeasurable and truly magnificent.
